Why we started
We are from here. We grew up around the Agafay, and we watched a lot of the money that tourism brings pass through middlemen and agencies far from the families who actually do the work: the people who set up the camps, lead the camels, cook the dinners and drive the roads. We started Visit Agafay Desert to change that, in a small but real way. Our goal is simple: help local families earn more and live better from the desert they call home.
How we work: directly, without middlemen
Most trips to Agafay are sold through a chain of intermediaries, and each link takes a cut before anything reaches the ground. We cut that chain. We deal directly with the camp hosts, guides, cooks, drivers and cooperatives, and we agree on fair terms with them. Because there is no middleman taking a commission along the way, a larger share of what a traveler pays actually stays with local families instead of leaving the region.
