Private return transport from Marrakech, lunch, a one-hour yoga or meditation session with a teacher, the afternoon at the camp, sunset and dinner under the stars.
Most Agafay trips are built around movement: a quad, a camel, a jeep, a dinner show. This one is built around stopping. You are collected from your riad in the early afternoon, driven 30 km south-west of Marrakech, and the rest of the day belongs to you. A teacher leads one hour of yoga or meditation, lunch follows, and then nothing is scheduled until the sun goes down. The desert does the work: the Agafay is a stone plateau, not a dune field, and what it offers is silence and a very long view towards the Atlas. Dinner is served outdoors once it is dark. You are back in Marrakech the same night.
We are a travel agency in Marrakech, not a camp. We hold no rooms and no yoga studio, which is why we can place this day at whichever camp suits the two or six of you, and why we will say plainly when a camp is too busy on your date for the quiet you came for.
How the day runs
Pickup from your riad or hotel is timed on sunset, so it moves through the year — around 12:30 in December, closer to 14:40 in June. The drive is about 40 minutes, out past the olive groves and over the last ridge, where the landscape turns to bare grey stone.
You arrive with the afternoon ahead of you. The session comes first, while the light is still high: one hour of yoga or of guided meditation, led outdoors or under an open tent depending on the heat and the wind. Mint tea follows. Then lunch, unhurried, at the camp.
The middle of the day is deliberately empty. People read, sleep, walk out along the ridges, or simply sit. Nothing is scheduled again until the light starts to go, which is the hour the Agafay is famous for: the stone turns from grey to orange and the Atlas shows up sharply on the horizon.
Dinner is served outdoors after dark — Moroccan salads, a tagine or a grill, fruit and tea, under a sky with no city light in it. The drive back puts you in Marrakech around 22:00 in winter and towards 23:30 in summer.
What time we collect you, month by month
The whole day is built backwards from sunset, so there is no fixed departure time. Sunset in Marrakech swings by more than two hours across the year, and we aim to collect you about six hours before it. These are calculated times for the 15th of each month; we confirm yours when we book.
| Month | Sunset | Typical pickup |

Yoga, meditation, or both
The session is one hour and it is yours to define. Most people take a gentle yoga flow in the afternoon light, which suits bodies that have spent three days walking the medina. Others prefer sitting practice: guided meditation and breathing, no mats, no postures, usually facing the Atlas. Couples often split the difference and ask for half and half.
No experience is needed and nothing is performed in front of anyone — this is a private session, not a class you join. Tell us if there are knees, backs or a pregnancy to work around and the teacher plans for it. If you want something longer than a single day, our guide to yoga and wellness retreats in the Agafay covers the multi-day options and the camps built for them.
For couples
This is the quiet alternative to a dinner show. There is no fire performance, no shared table and no group of forty arriving by coach at seven. You get an afternoon with nothing in it, which is a rarer thing on a Marrakech holiday than any activity, and a table of your own after dark.
Two details are worth settling in advance, because they decide how the evening feels. Ask us how far apart the camp sets its tables, and whether the camp runs live music that night — some do every evening. If you want the evening staged rather than simply quiet, our private candlelight dinner is built for that, and a birthday in the Agafay at 130 € per person covers a decorated table and a cake.
For women travelling alone or together
A large share of the people who book this day are women: pairs of friends, mothers and daughters, and women travelling on their own. The format suits it. The vehicle is private rather than shared, the driver collects you at your riad door and brings you back to it, and the session is not a public class, so nobody is joining a group of strangers in the dark.
Practical points people ask about: there is no dress code at the camps, so wear what you would wear to a yoga class, and bring a layer for after sunset because the Agafay cools fast from November to March. If you are travelling solo and want the wider picture first — what to expect, what to wear, how the camps handle single travellers — we wrote a guide on women travelling in the Agafay Desert.
When to come, and what to bring
October to April is the comfortable half of the year for a day that includes an outdoor session: the afternoons are warm rather than punishing. In July and August the session moves later or under cover, because midday on a stone plateau is not the moment for yoga. March and April can bring a dry wind that lifts dust; it passes, but it is worth knowing when you pick a date.
Bring loose clothes you can move in, a hat and sunglasses, sunscreen, and a jacket or shawl for the evening — the temperature drops quickly once the sun is down, and most first-time visitors underestimate it. Mats and props are at the camp. A torch is not necessary; the camps are lit, though deliberately dimly, which is rather the point once you look up. If you want to make an evening of the sky itself, our stargazing guide explains what is visible and when.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a wellness day trip in the Agafay Desert cost?
170 € per person. That covers private return transport from your Marrakech hotel or riad, a one-hour yoga or meditation session with a teacher, lunch, the afternoon at the camp, sunset and dinner served outdoors after dark.
How long does the day last?
Roughly ten hours door to door. Pickup is about six hours before sunset, which means around 12:30 in December and about 14:40 in June, and you are back in Marrakech around 22:00 in winter or towards 23:30 in summer.
Do I need yoga experience?
No. The session is private, not a class you join, and the teacher adapts it to whoever is there. If you would rather not do postures at all, take guided meditation and breathing instead, which is the same hour without the mat.
Is this suitable for a woman travelling alone?
Yes, and it is one of the more common bookings. The vehicle is private, the driver collects you at your riad and returns you to it, and the session is yours rather than a group class.
Is transport included in the 170 €?
Yes. Private return transport from Marrakech with an English-speaking driver is part of the price, unlike most Agafay activities where the transfer is quoted separately at 80 € per vehicle.
Can we swim during the afternoon?
At some camps, yes, but pool access is not part of the 170 € because camps charge for it differently. Tell us when you book and we will choose a camp where swimming is included or inexpensive.
What happens if it rains?
Rain is rare in the Agafay. If the forecast is against us we move the session under cover at the same camp, change the date, or cancel at no cost, and we tell you the evening before rather than on the day.
Book the wellness day
