We pick you up from your Marrakech riad in the afternoon and drive about forty minutes to our base on the edge of the Agafay Desert. This agafay buggy camel ride pairs a fast run over the stony plains with a slow camel walk at the end of the day, so you get both the noise and the quiet in one trip. Agafay is rock and grey hills rather than sand, which is exactly why the buggy grips so well out here.

What you’ll do

At the base you sign in, pull on a helmet and get a short briefing on the controls and the route. You drive the two-seater buggy yourself along marked tracks that wind between the flat-topped hills and dry riverbeds of the Agafay. The loop runs for about an hour with a stop on a ridge for photos over the plain toward the Atlas.

When you hand the buggy back, the camels are waiting. A handler walks you out on a gentle line across the stony ground as the light drops, roughly thirty to forty minutes at an easy pace. We finish with mint tea back at the tents.

Frequently asked questions

Do I drive the buggy myself?

Yes. After the briefing you drive your own two-seater buggy. If you would rather not drive, a guide can take the wheel and you ride along.

How long is the camel part?

The camel walk lasts about thirty to forty minutes at a slow pace, timed for the softer light near the end of the day.

Is there sand for the camels?

Agafay is a stone desert, so the camels walk over firm rocky ground and low hills rather than dunes. It is a calm, steady ride.

What should I wear?

Closed shoes, sunglasses and clothes you don’t mind getting dusty. Bring a light layer for the camel ride, as it cools down once the sun is low.
