Climbing in Ourika Valley

We pick you up from your riad after breakfast for a day of climbing in Ourika, the green valley that runs up into the Atlas about an hour south of Marrakech. You climb on real rock with a qualified local guide who sorts the ropes, the belays and the route choice, so beginners and experienced climbers both get a proper day. All the gear comes with us; you just bring shoes you can walk in and a bit of nerve.

Morning: drive in and warm up

The road out of Marrakech follows the valley up past Tnine Ourika and its Monday market, then climbs alongside the river toward Setti Fatma. We park where the crag is easy to reach and walk in through the fields. Your guide fits your harness, runs you through the calls and the belay, and puts you on an easy route first to get the feel of the rock before anything harder.

Route: Marrakech, Tnine Ourika, up the valley toward Setti Fatma, then a short walk to the climbing area. Around 65 km each way.

Afternoon: climb, then back to Marrakech

Through the middle of the day you work a few routes, going up in difficulty as far as you want. The guide keeps it safe and calls the pace, and you take breaks for water and photos with the valley below. When you’ve had your fill we walk back out, stop for tea by the river, and drive you home to Marrakech, usually in the late afternoon.
