Ourika Valley Day Trip From Marrakech
Booking direct with us supports local Agafay families. Read our social mission →
An Ourika day trip is the easiest way to swap the heat of Marrakech for cool mountain air and running water in a single morning. We run it privately, so you get your own driver and an air-conditioned car, and you set the pace: linger over mint tea by the river or push straight up to the waterfalls. The valley starts about an hour south of the city, following the Ourika river up into the first slopes of the High Atlas.

Trip highlights
- Drive up the green Ourika valley along the river into the Atlas foothills
- Walk to the Setti Fatma waterfalls through a string of small cafes and stalls
- Stop in a Berber village and see how an argan or saffron cooperative works
- Tea and, if you like, lunch on a terrace hanging over the water
- Cooler mountain temperatures, a real break from the city
- Private car and driver the whole day, your stops on your schedule
How the day goes
We pick you up from your riad or hotel after breakfast and drive south out of Marrakech. The road passes through Tnine Ourika, where the Monday souk sets up, and then the valley narrows and greens as the river comes alongside you. We can stop at a women’s argan cooperative so you can watch the nuts being cracked and pressed by hand, and there’s usually a spot to see how saffron is grown further up.
Route: Marrakech, Tnine Ourika, the argan cooperative, Setti Fatma at the head of the valley.
At Setti Fatma the road ends and the walking begins. It’s a rocky scramble up to the first waterfall, maybe forty minutes at an easy pace, crossing the stream on stepping stones and plank bridges. A local guide can meet you here if you want a hand on the climb. Back at river level, most people take lunch on one of the terraces built right over the water, with tagine the usual order. In the afternoon we drive you back down the valley and into Marrakech, dropping you where you started.

FAQ
Is this a private trip? Yes. It’s just your group, your driver and your car, so nothing is shared with strangers.
What time do we leave and get back? We usually collect you around 9am and have you back in Marrakech in the late afternoon, roughly 5 to 6pm. We can shift that earlier or later.
When is the best time to go? Spring and autumn are lovely, with the river full and the slopes green. Summer is popular because the valley stays cooler than the city.
Can we customize the stops and pick-up? Of course. Tell us if you’d rather skip the cooperative, add more walking, or start from a different address, and we’ll set it up.
