The balloon flight is the one experience that shows you the whole picture — the Agafay’s stone plateau, the palm groves around Marrakech, and the snow-capped Atlas, all at once, from the air. It’s an early start, and worth every minute of it.

We pick you up from your riad or hotel before dawn and drive out to the launch field, where you watch the balloons inflate in the half-light. The flight itself lasts roughly 45 minutes to an hour, drifting silently over the desert and countryside as the sun comes up. Back on the ground, you’re welcomed with a Berber breakfast and given a flight certificate. Count on three to four hours door to door.

• Very early pick-up — dress in layers, it’s cold before sunrise and warm after.
